Experimenting with 16:9

Ohio’s Kenny Kaminski takes a calm shot despite the flailing defense of Akron’s Pat Forsythe.

Seen through the legs of Ohio’s Antonio Campbell, teammate Jaaron Simmons dribbles past Akron’s Noah Robotham.

Ohio’s Treg Setty smacks a pass awry, while defending Akron Zip Reggie McAdams.

Ohio’s Jaaron Simmons keeps the ball away from Akron’s Antino Jackson Jr. while looking to pass.

Even though Ohio fell 68-80 to Akron las night at the Convocation Center, the Bobcats played a tremendous game.  The electrified match-up of the two Ohio teams gave way to a close game that unravelled for the ‘Cats only in the last few minutes.  With so much action, I took the opportunity to experiment a little and tried applying the aspect ratio of 16:9 to photographing the game. It was challenging but fun to force myself to compose in the new frame, but I think it was a good exercise with interesting results. To me, 16:9 gives still images a cinematic feel, which, when used correctly, can really lend itself to some engaging images.
